What this trial studies
This is a retrospective descriptive analysis of patients with multiple osteochondromas who underwent surgery at Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli between January 1, 2012 and February 28, 2025. Clinical records and imaging will be reviewed to catalog indications for surgery, types of procedures performed, perioperative complications, and any subsequent malignant transformations or reoperations. All ages and both sexes are eligible if they had surgery at the center; cases with alternative diagnoses such as enchondromatosis or solitary exostosis are excluded. The goal is to provide a comprehensive surgical case series to inform clinical management and follow-up planning.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are people of any age and sex who were diagnosed with multiple osteochondromas and had surgery at Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli between January 1, 2012 and February 28, 2025.
Not a fit: Patients who never had surgery at this center or whose diagnosis is actually a different condition (for example enchondromatosis or solitary exostosis) are unlikely to benefit from this dataset.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the analysis could help clinicians and patients better understand which surgical approaches and follow-up practices are associated with fewer complications and better functional outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Comparable retrospective surgical series for multiple osteochondromas exist in the literature and have previously informed operative decision-making and surveillance, so this is not a novel experimental approach but an added institutional dataset.
