What this trial studies
The PAKistan Study of prEmature coronary atHerosclerosis in young AdulTs (PAK-SEHAT) is a prospective cohort study aimed at understanding the prevalence and severity of subclinical coronary atherosclerosis among young-to-middle aged Pakistani men and women who are free of clinical cardiovascular disease (CVD). The study will enroll 2,000 participants and follow them for 5 years to assess cardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. By identifying the determinants of early coronary atherosclerosis, the study seeks to fill critical gaps in knowledge regarding cardiovascular health in this population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are native Pakistani men aged 35-60 years and women aged 35-65 years who are asymptomatic and free of known clinical cardiovascular disease.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of stroke, myocardial infarction, or other significant cardiovascular conditions will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved screening and prevention strategies for cardiovascular disease in young Pakistani adults.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically targeting this demographic, studies have shown that understanding cardiovascular risk factors in South Asian populations can lead to significant health improvements.
