What this trial studies
This randomized Phase 2 trial will compare three sleep-focused interventions delivered alone and in combination across five groups to promote sleep health in active-duty Marines. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of five arms and followed for 24 weeks, with surveys for all participants and wearable sleep trackers for a subset. Primary outcomes are sleep quality and duration and changes in symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and suicidal ideation. The program is adapted for Marine Corps settings and is run by San Diego State University with military research collaborators.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Active-duty U.S. Marines aged 18 or older who are assigned at the approved San Diego study site, can read and write English, and do not expect deployment or a change of duty station during the 24-week study period.
Not a fit: Marines who are under 18, unable to read English, or who expect a deployment or transfer lasting 30 days or longer during the 24-week study period would not be eligible and therefore would not receive the program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could improve sleep and mental health among Marines and offer a scalable way to reduce suicide risk across the force.
How similar studies have performed: Prior sleep-focused health promotion programs in military populations have shown feasibility and benefits for sleep and psychological symptoms, though this specific multi-component approach for Marines is relatively novel.
