Shortness of breath in autoimmune myasthenia gravis: causes and testing
Evaluating Dyspnea in Autoimmune Myasthenia Gravis "Why am I Short of Breath?"
We will see if patient-reported symptoms and specific clinical tests can identify the causes of shortness of breath in adults with autoimmune myasthenia gravis.

What this trial studies
MYaResp is a prospective observational, cross-sectional study that examines breathlessness in adults with autoimmune myasthenia gravis. Adults who report daily-life shortness of breath will complete questionnaires and undergo clinical and physiological testing to characterize the sensation, its severity, and its functional impact. The study will compare patient-reported dyspnea with disease severity measures and objective tests to identify contributing factors and the most informative diagnostic tests. Results are intended to inform targeted management strategies and monitoring to reduce respiratory deterioration and improve quality of life.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults (≥18) with a confirmed diagnosis of autoimmune myasthenia gravis who report daily-life shortness of breath (eligible MG-ADL respiration item score) and can provide informed consent are appropriate candidates.
Not a fit: Patients without current dyspnea, those with other known respiratory disorders, recent respiratory infection, current MG crisis, pregnancy, or severe cognitive impairment/guardianship are unlikely to benefit or be eligible.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this work could help clinicians pinpoint causes of breathlessness in MG and guide treatments to reduce discomfort and lower the risk of respiratory worsening.
How similar studies have performed: Some prior observational studies have described respiratory involvement in MG, but few have systematically linked patient-reported dyspnea with a broad set of clinical and physiological tests, so this approach is partly novel.
Eligibility criteria
