What this trial studies
This study focuses on screening for Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) in rural communities of Sindh using point of care ultrasound to assess heart valve conditions. Patients diagnosed with RHD will receive tailored treatment and referrals based on the severity of their condition. The study aims to implement community health worker-led antibiotic prophylaxis to prevent disease progression, with follow-up imaging scheduled at two and five years to evaluate outcomes. The goal is to identify and manage RHD early to improve patient outcomes in a cost-effective manner.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals living in rural communities in Sindh who are at risk for Rheumatic Heart Disease.
Not a fit: Patients who refuse to participate in the study will not receive any benefit from the interventions offered.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce the progression of Rheumatic Heart Disease and improve long-term heart health for affected patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using point of care ultrasound for early detection and management of Rheumatic Heart Disease, indicating that this approach is promising.
