Screening children and parents for familial hypercholesterolemia
Child-Parent Screening of Familial Hypercholesterolemia in Children

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to implement a child-parent screening program for familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) to identify children and their parents who are carriers of FH mutations and at high risk for premature coronary artery disease. The study will involve a community-based screening of children aged 2 years, starting with a finger blood total cholesterol test, followed by further testing for those with elevated cholesterol levels. The goal is to establish effective screening techniques and protocols for early diagnosis and intervention in FH families.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 1 to 3 years who are receiving routine child care.
Not a fit: Patients who do not meet the age criteria or those deemed unsuitable by the researcher may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this screening program could lead to early identification and management of familial hypercholesterolemia, potentially reducing the risk of premature coronary artery disease in affected families.
How similar studies have performed: While child-parent screening for familial hypercholesterolemia is a proposed approach, this specific implementation is novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
