What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates a school readiness intervention designed specifically for preschool children aged 3.5 to 6.5 years diagnosed with sickle cell disease. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the intervention group, which will attend virtual classroom sessions over eight weeks, or to a control group receiving standard school resources. The study aims to assess the feasibility and acceptability of the program, as well as its preliminary efficacy in improving school readiness skills compared to routine care. Caregivers will also provide feedback through interviews and assessments will be conducted to measure various outcomes before and after the intervention.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are preschool children aged 3.5 to 6.5 years with a diagnosis of sickle cell disease and their English-speaking caregivers.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have sickle cell disease or are non-English speakers may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could enhance school readiness and educational outcomes for children with sickle cell disease.
How similar studies have performed: While similar interventions have been explored, this specific adaptation for children with sickle cell disease is novel and has not been extensively tested.
