What this trial studies

This is an observational, non-interventional study at a musculoskeletal and sports medicine outpatient clinic where adult patients presenting with pain complete the PainDETECT questionnaire. Pain regions and clinical diagnoses determined during routine care will be recorded alongside questionnaire scores. Data will be collected prospectively from medical records and linked to patient-reported outcomes without any change to standard treatment. Statistical analyses will explore associations between PainDETECT scores, pain localization, and clinical diagnoses.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18 and older who present to the clinic with pain and have complete medical records including PainDETECT questionnaire data are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients under 18, those with incomplete questionnaire or clinical data, or those with pain primarily from systemic non-musculoskeletal conditions are unlikely to benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help clinicians spot neuropathic pain features in musculoskeletal patients and tailor management more accurately.

How similar studies have performed: Prior studies have used PainDETECT in musculoskeletal populations and often found it useful for identifying neuropathic pain components, though results vary across settings and diagnoses.
