What this trial studies
This study investigates the impact of second-level Reiki on pain severity and sleep quality in patients suffering from diabetic neuropathy. It employs a mixed-methods approach, combining a single-blind, randomized controlled design with both quantitative and qualitative assessments. Participants will be assigned to either a Reiki group, a Sham Reiki group, or a control group, with Reiki sessions conducted remotely for 20 minutes daily over four days. The study will also include in-depth interviews with selected participants to gather qualitative insights into their experiences.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old with diabetic neuropathy who have a pain intensity score of 3 or higher.
Not a fit: Patients with psychiatric illnesses, cerebrovascular diseases, or those currently receiving Reiki treatment will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a non-invasive alternative treatment for managing neuropathic pain and improving sleep quality in diabetic neuropathy patients.
How similar studies have performed: While Reiki has been explored in various contexts, this specific application in diabetic neuropathy is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
