What this trial studies
The SAFEHEART project is an ongoing observational registry that focuses on patients with genetically confirmed heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) in Spain. This study aims to gather comprehensive data on the clinical characteristics, treatment responses, and outcomes of these patients, who are at high risk for severe cardiovascular diseases. By analyzing the genetic mutations associated with FH and their impact on health, the study seeks to improve understanding and management of this condition. The registry includes index cases and their first-degree relatives, providing a broad perspective on familial patterns of FH.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals over 15 years old with a genetic diagnosis of heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia and their first-degree relatives.
Not a fit: Patients who are unwilling to participate or do not have a genetic diagnosis of familial hypercholesterolemia will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management strategies and outcomes for patients with familial hypercholesterolemia.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies on familial hypercholesterolemia have shown significant advancements in understanding and treating the condition, indicating that this approach is built on established research.
