What this trial studies
This study aims to create a registry for older patients aged 50 and above who have been diagnosed with hematologic malignancies. Participants will undergo a geriatric assessment questionnaire and objective physical function testing, including the Short Physical Performance Battery and muscle strength assessment. The study will track changes in patient-reported outcomes over time through follow-up assessments at 3 months, 6 months, and one year. Additionally, a blood or saliva sample will be collected to support future research.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 50 and older with a biopsy-proven diagnosis of hematologic malignancies.
Not a fit: Patients younger than 50 years old or those who do not speak or read English may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this registry could enhance understanding of frailty and geriatric impairments in older adults with blood cancers, leading to improved patient care.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is focused on a specific population, similar registries have shown success in understanding geriatric conditions in cancer patients.
