What this trial studies

This study evaluates the CALM psychotherapy program, which is designed to address the emotional distress experienced by patients with metastatic cancer. The intervention consists of 3 to 6 individual psychotherapy sessions, conducted over a period of 3 to 6 months, with the option for a caregiver to participate in some sessions. The study aims to assess the preliminary efficacy of this evidence-based approach in a sample of 34 patients in Chile, where there is a lack of effective therapeutic interventions for this population. Sessions will be conducted online and may be recorded for supervision and training purposes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are Spanish-speaking adults aged 18 and older with a diagnosis of advanced or metastatic solid tumor cancer and a life expectancy greater than six months.

Not a fit: Patients with significant verbal communication difficulties, cognitive impairments, or those currently undergoing psychotherapy may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this psychotherapy could significantly improve the emotional well-being of patients with metastatic cancer.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is based on established evidence from the Global CALM program, the specific application in Chile is novel and untested.
