What this trial studies

This study aims to implement a psychoeducation intervention for family carers of young adults experiencing psychotic disorders. It addresses the lack of education and support for families, equipping them with skills and knowledge to better support their loved ones. The intervention consists of nine expert-reviewed psychoeducation modules designed to reduce family burden and enhance community stabilization for service users. The effectiveness of this intervention will be assessed using a longitudinal pre-post design to evaluate its impact on service utilization and functional outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are young adults aged 17-27 who have recently been admitted or discharged from a psychiatric unit for psychosis.

Not a fit: Patients who are not proficient in English or have not had a recent psychiatric admission for psychosis will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve the ability of families to support their loved ones with psychotic disorders, leading to better outcomes for both the patients and their families.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that family psychoeducation can be beneficial, but this specific approach is novel in its comprehensive, public-health level implementation.
