What this trial studies
This study evaluates a program designed to implement screening, referral, and management of fear of cancer recurrence in routine cancer care clinics. It employs a stepped-wedge cluster randomized controlled trial approach to compare the effectiveness of systematic implementation strategies against usual care. The program includes training and qualitative assessments to understand the experiences of patients and service providers, as well as to identify factors that may affect its adoption and sustainability. The goal is to increase the number of eligible patients screened and referred for psychosocial support.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients diagnosed with non-metastatic breast, gynecological, or colorectal cancer who have completed primary and adjuvant treatment within the past two years.
Not a fit: Patients who are beyond two years post-treatment or diagnosed with metastatic cancer or cancers outside of breast, gynecological, and colorectal types may not benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve the mental health and quality of life for cancer survivors experiencing fear of recurrence.
How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches have been explored, this specific implementation program is novel in its structured approach to managing fear of cancer recurrence.
