What this trial studies

Counselors at the Grand Bahama Resilience Center will be trained to deliver the WHO PM+ program and then provide five one-on-one PM+ sessions to about 50 adults with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. After completing PM+, participants will be randomized roughly three months later to either receive a co-created one-time PM+ booster session or a control phone reminder. Outcomes are measured with de-identified self-report surveys at baseline, about one week post-PM+, three months, and six months, plus provider checklists to track fidelity. Qualitative interviews with selected participants and providers will explore acceptability and implementation of the booster.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18+) living in the Bahamas who speak English and are experiencing mild to moderate depression or anxiety, without severe cognitive impairment or psychosis, are the intended participants.

Not a fit: People with imminent suicide risk, severe mental disorders (such as psychosis), or severe cognitive impairment are excluded and are unlikely to benefit from this brief PM+ booster approach.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, a single booster session could help maintain or strengthen symptom improvements after PM+ and reduce relapse or worsening of anxiety and depression.

How similar studies have performed: Problem Management Plus (PM+) has demonstrated benefits in multiple trials in low-resource settings, but using a single, co-created booster session for maintenance is less studied and is being piloted here.
