What this trial studies

This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of the Refer2Quit intervention, which aims to increase tobacco treatment and quit rates among household smokers by leveraging a clinical decision support system within electronic health records. Participants will be recruited from outpatient primary care practices associated with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and will be randomly assigned to either an intervention group receiving tailored tobacco treatment options or a control group. The study also seeks to understand the characteristics of household members and pediatric patients that influence the success of the intervention.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older who are current combustible tobacco users and have a valid cell phone number.

Not a fit: Patients who are under 18 years of age or do not identify as current combustible tobacco users will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve smoking cessation rates among household smokers, benefiting both the smokers and their families.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar population health approaches for tobacco cessation, indicating potential for effectiveness in this intervention.
