What this trial studies

This study investigates the effectiveness of various intravenous drugs, including lidocaine and alfentanil, in preventing cough during bronchoscopic procedures. Coughing can lead to complications such as airway spasm and hemodynamic instability, which can interrupt the procedure. Participants will receive one of the drugs or a placebo (normal saline) one minute before the bronchoscopic insertion, and various physiological responses will be monitored and analyzed. The study aims to improve the safety and efficacy of bronchoscopic interventions by minimizing cough-related complications.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients scheduled for bronchoscopic interventions for lung tumors requiring intravenous anesthesia.

Not a fit: Patients undergoing conventional bronchoscopy without any interventions will likely not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the safety and effectiveness of bronchoscopic procedures for patients with lung tumors.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have explored various methods to prevent cough during bronchoscopic procedures, but this specific approach using these drugs is less commonly tested.
