What this trial studies

PrOTECT AL implements a real-time PrEP Care Continuum dashboard across seven clinics in Alabama, using data mapping and quarterly STI overlap to visualize service-area PrEP coverage and equity. The team will refine the dashboard, perform on-site organizational readiness assessments, and incorporate clinic-specific PrEP equity performance indexes. Implementation outcomes guided by the RE-AIM framework (including reach, adoption, and maintenance) will be measured at each site, with a primary outcome comparing changes in PrEP prescriptions to Black versus White persons with PrEP indications. Effectiveness will be tested using an interrupted time-series analysis of the PrEP-to-need ratio and overall PrEP coverage.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal participants are English-speaking clinic staff aged 18 or older (providers, nurses/medical assistants, clinical administrators, or data managers) who work at one of the seven participating Alabama PrEP clinics.

Not a fit: Individuals who are not staff at the seven participating sites, who are under 18, or who do not speak English are not eligible and are unlikely to benefit directly from this implementation effort.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the dashboard and implementation strategies could help clinics identify and close PrEP coverage gaps and increase equitable PrEP prescribing to reduce HIV risk in underserved populations.

How similar studies have performed: Similar data-driven dashboard and implementation interventions for HIV prevention and PrEP have shown promising improvements in care metrics at single-site or regional programs, although multi-site controlled implementations remain limited.
