Predicting survival in colorectal cancer with peritoneal metastases using an AI model
Development and Validation of a AI Prognostic Model Based on DNA Ploidy, Stroma, and Nucleotyping for Synchronous Peritoneal Metastasis From Colorectal Cancer
This study is testing a new AI tool to see if it can help doctors predict survival for patients with colorectal cancer that has spread to the lining of the abdomen.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to validate a prediction model called PSN-AI, which utilizes DNA ploidy, stroma-tumor fraction, and nucleotyping to assess survival outcomes in patients with synchronous peritoneal metastases from colorectal cancer. By analyzing pathological slides, the study seeks to improve classification and understanding of survival heterogeneity in this patient population. The model is designed to provide clinicians with better tools for predicting patient outcomes based on specific tumor characteristics.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients with histologically confirmed synchronous peritoneal metastases from nonappendiceal colorectal adenocarcinoma who are undergoing cytoreduction surgery.
Not a fit: Patients with other types of malignant tumors or those with systemic metastases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this model could enhance survival predictions and treatment planning for patients with colorectal cancer and peritoneal metastases.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar predictive models in oncology have shown promise, suggesting potential for success.
Eligibility criteria
Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * Histological proof of synchronous peritoneal metastases of a nonappendiceal colorectal adenocarcinoma. * Resectable disease determined by computed tomography (CT) and a peritoneal cancer index (PCI) of ≤20 at diagnostic laparoscopy or laparotomy; * No evidence of systemic (e.g. liver, lung) colorectal metastases within three months prior to enrolment; * Undergoing cytoreduction surgery for synchronous peritoneal metastasis from colorectal cancer. Exclusion Criteria: * Combined with other types of malignant tumors.
