What this trial studies

This project focuses on the characterization of combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC-CCA), a rare and aggressive liver cancer. The study aims to identify actionable gene alterations and improve diagnostic methods through the use of immunohistochemical biomarkers and deep-learning models. By analyzing a multicentric series of 357 cHCC-CCA samples, the researchers will perform gene and RNA sequencing, digital pathology, and immunohistochemistry to create a morphomolecular classification of the tumor. This integrative approach seeks to enhance understanding of the disease and facilitate precision medicine for affected patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals with a histological diagnosis of combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma and available biological samples.

Not a fit: Patients with unequivocal histological features of liver cancer may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more accurate diagnoses and targeted therapies for patients with cHCC-CCA.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on liver cancer, this specific approach to cHCC-CCA using precision medicine and deep learning is relatively novel.
