What this trial studies

Palliative cancer patients who meet inclusion criteria complete validated Romanian questionnaires about attitudes to deprescribing (rPATD) and health literacy (HLS-EU-Q16). Participants then receive an educational brochure and watch a short video delivered by a clinical pharmacist about medication risks, benefits, and patient involvement in decisions. The rPATD questionnaire is repeated at the next treatment visit to measure changes in willingness and beliefs about stopping non-oncologic drugs. The study is conducted at Constantin Opris Emergency County Hospital in Baia Mare and excludes patients with cognitive impairment or poor performance status (ECOG 3-4).

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults with cancer receiving palliative treatment who are Romanian-speaking, have ECOG performance status 1–2, and no cognitive impairment are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients receiving curative-intent cancer treatment, those with ECOG 3–4 or cognitive impairment, or those unable to read or understand Romanian are unlikely to benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the intervention could increase patients' knowledge and willingness to discuss stopping unnecessary medications, potentially reducing medication-related harms.

How similar studies have performed: Related pharmacist-led education and deprescribing interventions have improved medication knowledge and willingness to stop medicines in older adult populations, but evidence specifically in palliative cancer patients—particularly in Romania—is limited.
