What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a personalized web-based intervention, eHealth Personalized Approach for Change Efficacy (ePACE), compared to a fixed intervention, eHealth Fixed Approach for Change Efficacy (eFACE), for adolescents experiencing mild to moderate substance use and mental health issues. The intervention is designed to engage youth by allowing them to make choices about the content and level of engagement in their treatment. It incorporates a multi-problem screener and various behavior change and counseling modules that address substance use, interpersonal relations, negative emotions, and stress. The goal is to provide a scalable, accessible resource that can be utilized in various settings, particularly where traditional treatment options are limited.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescents aged 12-17 who live at home, report mild to moderate substance use, and have mental health concerns.
Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit from this study include those with severe mental health issues requiring higher levels of care or those with a sibling already participating in the study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve access to effective early treatment for adolescents struggling with substance use and mental health issues.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using technology-based interventions for behavioral health, suggesting that this approach could be effective, though the specific combination of personalized and fixed interventions is relatively novel.
