What this trial studies
This randomized, parallel-group trial enrolled 108 third-year undergraduate nursing students at Ege University in Izmir, Turkey and randomly assigned them to a study group (traditional lecture plus a web-supported interactive learning application) or a control group (traditional lecture only). The design included pretest and posttest measurements and followed CONSORT reporting guidance. Knowledge and self-efficacy outcomes were measured using the Drug Dose Calculation Knowledge Test, the Perceived Learning Scale, and the Medication Administration Self-Efficacy Scale in Children for Nursing Students. The sample size was determined by a power analysis and data were analyzed using repeated-measures methods to compare changes between groups.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants were third-year undergraduate nursing students enrolled in the relevant course who have access to a computer or smartphone and volunteer to participate.
Not a fit: Students without a computer or smartphone, or those who do not complete all stages of the program, would likely not benefit from the intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could improve nursing students' competence and confidence in pediatric dosing and may help reduce medication errors in clinical practice.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies of web-based and interactive learning for medication calculation in nursing education have generally shown modest improvements in knowledge and confidence.
