Pain management technique for patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy

Evaluation of Effectiveness of Ultrasound-Guided Modified Thoracoabdominal Nerve Plane Block Through Perichondrial Approach (M-TAPA) for Postoperative Analgesia Management in Patients Undergoing Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy Operation

Not applicable Interventional Istanbul Medipol University Hospital · NCT06515691

What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of an ultrasound-guided Modified Thoracoabdominal Nerve Plane Block (M-TAPA) in patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). The M-TAPA block aims to provide effective postoperative analgesia by reducing opioid consumption in the first 24 hours after surgery. The study will involve patients classified as ASA II-III who are scheduled for LSG under general anesthesia. By utilizing this nerve block technique, the trial seeks to enhance pain management and improve recovery outcomes for bariatric surgery patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients classified as ASA II-III who are scheduled for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

Not a fit: Patients with bleeding disorders, those on anticoagulant therapy, or those with significant comorbidities such as congestive heart failure or liver/kidney disease may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce opioid use and improve postoperative recovery for patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown the effectiveness of M-TAPA blocks in abdominal surgeries, but this specific application in laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is novel.
