What this trial studies

This pilot study aims to evaluate the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of a single-session pain management class called Empowered Relief for Youth (ER-Y) designed for young individuals suffering from chronic pain. The class focuses on educating participants about pain science and teaching them self-regulatory skills to manage their pain. The study will assess the feasibility and acceptability of the ER-Y class immediately after the session, and will measure preliminary efficacy through surveys administered at baseline, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, and 12 weeks post-class. This approach is based on an evidence-based adult program adapted for a younger audience.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are youth aged 10 to 18 years who have a diagnosis of chronic pain and are English-speaking.

Not a fit: Patients with neurological conditions or severe affective disorders may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could provide youth with effective tools to manage their chronic pain, improving their quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is based on an established adult program, its application in youth is novel and has not been extensively tested.
