What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of an online training and peer support platform called Support-t for adolescents aged 14-16 with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) as they transition from pediatric to adult diabetes care. The study is a randomized controlled trial comparing the outcomes of participants receiving the Support-t intervention alongside usual care versus those receiving usual care alone. Key outcomes include changes in Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), psychosocial measures, and adverse diabetes-related events. The trial is conducted across four university teaching hospitals in Quebec, ensuring a robust and diverse participant pool.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adolescents aged 14-16 with a clinical diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes receiving care at designated pediatric diabetes clinics in Quebec.
Not a fit: Patients with severe neurocognitive disabilities or conditions affecting HbA1c accuracy may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could improve glycemic control and psychosocial well-being for adolescents transitioning to adult diabetes care.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using online platforms for diabetes management is gaining traction, this specific intervention is novel and has not been extensively tested in this context.
