What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on patients undergoing major hepatectomy, which involves the surgical removal of three or more liver segments, primarily due to liver diseases such as cancer. The study aims to assess the risks associated with surgical vascular clamping during the procedure, including potential complications like hemorrhage and hemodynamic instability. By analyzing patient data collected from surgeries performed at Strasbourg University Hospital throughout 2023, the study seeks to identify independent risk factors that may influence morbidity and mortality rates post-surgery.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older who are scheduled for major hepatectomy at Strasbourg University Hospital in 2023.
Not a fit: Patients who have previously undergone liver resection or who oppose participation in the study will not benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve surgical techniques and patient outcomes for those undergoing major liver surgeries.
How similar studies have performed: Recent literature suggests that liver resection without vascular clamping is becoming more accepted, indicating a shift in surgical practices, but this specific observational approach is less common.
