What this trial studies

The PUMCH Dementia Longitudinal Cohort Study is an observational study focused on elderly individuals in China diagnosed with various forms of dementia. It aims to establish a comprehensive database by collecting detailed clinical information, conducting neuropsychological evaluations, and storing biological samples. The study will explore the relationships between lifestyle factors, stress, and dementia, assess risk factors, and evaluate behavioral and psychological symptoms associated with the condition. Patients will be followed up every six months to monitor their cognitive health and gather longitudinal data.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are elderly individuals diagnosed with neurodegenerative dementia who have a fixed caregiver and can participate in regular follow-ups.

Not a fit: Patients who are not diagnosed with dementia, including those with mild cognitive impairment, or those with severe systemic diseases affecting follow-up will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved diagnosis, treatment strategies, and preventive measures for dementia in the elderly population.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies focusing on dementia in elderly populations have shown success in identifying risk factors and improving care, making this approach both relevant and potentially impactful.
