What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on infants diagnosed with biliary atresia, a condition that can lead to liver failure. It aims to assess the impact of high medium-chain triglyceride nutritional support on the growth and nutritional status of these infants, particularly during the critical period following the Kasai procedure. The study will monitor the nutritional outcomes and growth rates of infants receiving specialized nutritional therapy, addressing the common complications of malnutrition associated with biliary atresia. The research is conducted at a single center, the Children's Hospital of Fudan University, and aims to establish better nutritional practices for this vulnerable population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are infants under 3 months old who have undergone the Kasai procedure for biliary atresia.
Not a fit: Patients with complications such as cirrhosis, hepatitis, or other serious systemic diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve growth and nutritional outcomes for infants with biliary atresia, potentially enhancing their overall prognosis.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on nutritional support in biliary atresia, this specific approach focusing on medium-chain triglycerides is novel and has not been extensively tested.
