What this trial studies
This is an observational, single-center study enrolling patients with type 2 diabetes attending an outpatient diabetology clinic. Participants complete questionnaires on nutrition knowledge and adherence to the Mediterranean diet while clinical parameters are collected from their records. A hand grip test is performed as a simple measure of muscle strength and functional status. Data will be analyzed to look for relationships between diet knowledge/adherence and clinical or functional measures.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults with type 2 diabetes who are treated without insulin (on metformin, gliptins, gliflozins, incretin mimetics, pioglitazone, etc.) and able to give informed consent are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People with type 1 diabetes, patients with type 2 diabetes treated with insulin, or those unwilling to complete questionnaires or attend clinic visits are unlikely to benefit from this observational protocol.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the results could identify gaps in knowledge and adherence that inform targeted education or dietary support to help improve glucose control and overall health.
How similar studies have performed: Previous research has shown benefits of the Mediterranean diet for glycemic control and cardiovascular risk in type 2 diabetes, and other observational work has linked dietary knowledge and adherence to clinical outcomes.
