Effect of Nitrate Supplementation on Blood Pressure and Systemic Microvascular Function of Resistant Hypertensive Patients
EARLY_PHASE1 · National Institute of Cardiology, Laranjeiras, Brazil · NCT06169241

What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the impact of nitrate supplementation, specifically through beetroot extract, on blood pressure and microvascular function in patients with resistant hypertension. The study aims to determine whether increasing nitric oxide availability can lead to improved vasodilation and overall cardiovascular health. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the beetroot extract or a placebo, with careful monitoring of their blood pressure and microvascular responses. The trial focuses on patients who have not altered their antihypertensive medications in the past month.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals diagnosed with resistant hypertension who have not changed their antihypertensive medications in the last 30 days.
Not a fit: Patients with neoplasms, heart failure, or those using medications containing nitrates will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a novel dietary approach to managing resistant hypertension and improving cardiovascular health.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of dietary nitrates has shown promise in other studies, this specific approach in resistant hypertension is relatively novel and requires further investigation.
