What this trial studies

Researchers will enroll patients aged 80 years or older at Sultan 1. Murat State Hospital and perform a comprehensive geriatric assessment along with screening for neuropathic pain. The study is observational and collects clinical, functional, and cognitive parameters to determine the frequency of neuropathic pain in the oldest-old. Patients with moderate-to-severe dementia, recent acute illness, psychotic disorder, severe hearing loss, or a history of malignancy are excluded. The aim is to identify correlations between neuropathic pain presence and specific geriatric assessment measures.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are people aged 80 or older who can fully cooperate and complete a comprehensive geriatric assessment and who do not have moderate-to-severe dementia, recent acute illness, psychosis, severe hearing loss, or a history of cancer.

Not a fit: Patients with CDR-2 or CDR-3 dementia, recent acute illness, psychotic disorders, severe hearing loss, a history of malignancy, or those unable to cooperate are unlikely to benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the results could help clinicians recognize neuropathic pain in the oldest-old and tailor management based on geriatric assessment findings.

How similar studies have performed: Previous observational work has documented neuropathic pain in older adults, but studies focused specifically on people aged 80 and above are limited.
