What this trial studies
This project aims to develop and test a mobile app designed to assist pregnant women in quitting smoking through an adaptive intervention that incorporates peer support. The app utilizes artificial intelligence and reinforcement learning to tailor the cessation program to individual users, enhancing motivation and support during the quitting process. Grounded in Self-Determination Theory and Motivational Interviewing, the intervention seeks to improve smoking cessation rates and postnatal abstinence among participants. The study will also contribute to building mobile health research capacity in Romania.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pregnant women aged 18 and older who are regular cigarette users and have access to an Android phone with internet connectivity.
Not a fit: Patients who are not pregnant or do not use regular cigarettes may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve smoking cessation rates among pregnant women, leading to better health outcomes for both mothers and their babies.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of mobile health interventions for smoking cessation is gaining traction, this specific approach combining AI and peer support is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
