What this trial studies
This study tests the effects of adding a mindfulness intervention to standard treatment for patients with gambling problems. Participants will be compared to a waitlist control group that will receive the mindfulness intervention after two months. The primary goal is to reduce gambling behavior, while secondary goals include decreasing symptoms of depression and anxiety. Additionally, participants who complete the mindfulness intervention may take part in qualitative interviews to explore the feasibility and challenges of this approach.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals currently enrolled in treatment for problem gambling at designated healthcare or social service units.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to provide informed consent due to severe mental health issues or language barriers may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could provide a novel therapeutic option for individuals struggling with problem gambling.
How similar studies have performed: While mindfulness interventions have shown promise in various mental health contexts, this specific application for problem gambling is relatively novel.
