What this trial studies
This project is a randomized controlled trial that examines the effects of a brief 7-minute mindfulness intervention on pain levels in patients undergoing kyphoplasty or radiofrequency ablation. The study aims to assess how mindfulness techniques can help manage pain before these procedures. Participants will receive mindful pain management and psychoeducation to enhance their coping strategies. The trial is conducted at a single site, the Tallahassee Orthopedic Center.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who are fluent in English and scheduled for kyphoplasty or radiofrequency ablation at the Tallahassee Orthopedic Center.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to consent due to physical or mental incapacity will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce pain and improve the overall experience for patients undergoing orthopedic procedures.
How similar studies have performed: While mindfulness interventions have shown promise in pain management in various contexts, this specific approach in the setting of orthopedic procedures is relatively novel.
