What this trial studies
This project evaluates the effectiveness of a combination mindfulness and music intervention on acute pain in patients at an orthopedic clinic. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of four groups, each receiving a different type of mindfulness recording, with variations including sustained tones and binaural beats. The aim is to determine which combination is most effective in alleviating pain during their wait time. This approach integrates psychological and auditory techniques to potentially enhance pain management.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who are receiving pain treatment at the Tallahassee Orthopedic Center and can understand English instructions.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to consent due to physical or mental incapacity will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could provide a non-pharmacological method for patients to manage acute pain effectively.
How similar studies have performed: While the combination of mindfulness and music is a relatively novel approach, similar studies have shown promising results in using mindfulness techniques for pain management.
