What this trial studies

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a mobile health (mHealth) intervention called Physical Activity Toward Health (mPATH) in enhancing cognitive function and sleep quality among low-income older adults. The intervention includes personalized physical activity plans, exercise videos, and biweekly coaching over a 24-week period, utilizing wearable devices to facilitate engagement. By focusing on this underserved population, the study seeks to address the gap in research regarding the benefits of physical activity on cognitive decline and sleep disturbances in low-income older adults.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are low-income older adults who experience sleep difficulties and lack regular physical activity but are capable of moderate-intensity exercise.

Not a fit: Patients with untreated sleep apnea, severe mental health issues, or those with a history of neurological disorders may not benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve cognitive function and sleep quality in low-income older adults, potentially reducing the risk of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with physical activity interventions in older adults, but this specific approach targeting low-income individuals is relatively novel.
