What this trial studies
This study evaluates new guidelines for diagnosing and managing breath-holding spells in children under five years old in southern Sweden. It aims to determine if these guidelines can reduce unnecessary diagnostic interventions and ensure safe clinical management. Additionally, the study investigates whether iron supplementation can decrease the frequency and severity of these spells. Parents will also be surveyed to understand their informational and support needs regarding their children's condition.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children under five years old who are residents of Region Skåne and suspected of having breath-holding spells.
Not a fit: Patients who have previously been investigated for breath-holding spells may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management and reduced frequency of breath-holding spells in young children.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is novel in its specific focus, similar studies have shown promise in managing pediatric conditions through updated guidelines.
