What this trial studies

This study evaluates the Malkia Klabu intervention, a loyalty program designed to create adolescent-friendly drug shops in Tanzania where young women can access HIV prevention services and contraception. It involves a cluster-randomized controlled trial across 40 health facility catchment areas, with approximately 60-70 intervention drug shops. The program incentivizes young women through a loyalty card system that rewards purchases with prizes and provides free HIV self-test kits. Additionally, the study will explore supply-side factors affecting the program's effectiveness through a mixed-methods implementation science approach.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescent girls and young women living in the Mwanza and Shinyanga regions of Tanzania who seek HIV prevention and reproductive health services.

Not a fit: Patients who do not reside in the targeted regions or those who are not adolescent girls or young women may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve access to HIV prevention and contraception for adolescent girls and young women in Tanzania.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar community-based interventions aimed at improving access to health services for young women, indicating potential for this approach.
