What this trial studies

This observational project follows adults treated for acute mesenteric ischemia at Strasbourg University Hospitals from 2010 to 2022 to document their long-term quality of life. Investigators will identify eligible patients from records in intensive care, cardiovascular, and digestive and vascular surgery departments and will exclude cases of chronic mesenteric ischemia and colonic ischemia. The study combines hospital chart data with patient-reported outcomes collected at follow-up to describe functional status and well-being. No experimental treatments are given; the aim is to provide descriptive outcomes that may inform future care and rehabilitation.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older who were treated for acute mesenteric ischemia at Strasbourg University Hospitals between 2010 and 2022 are the intended participants.

Not a fit: People with chronic mesenteric ischemia, non-ischemic mechanical intestinal disorders, or isolated colonic ischemia would not be expected to benefit from this study's findings.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the results could help doctors and patients better understand recovery trajectories and guide follow-up care and rehabilitation after acute mesenteric ischemia.

How similar studies have performed: There are relatively few published studies specifically on quality of life after acute mesenteric ischemia, so this work addresses a known gap in the literature.
