What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of laser acupuncture in reducing the severity of primary headaches, specifically migraines. Patients over 18 years old with a diagnosis of primary headache will be randomly assigned to either a laser acupuncture group or a sham-controlled group. The study will involve eight sessions of treatment over the first month, with follow-up assessments conducted for at least six months to evaluate changes in headache severity and related lab data. The trial aims to provide insights into the efficacy of this non-invasive treatment approach compared to traditional acupuncture.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old diagnosed with primary headaches according to ICHD-3 criteria.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old or those who are pregnant will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could offer a safer, non-invasive option for migraine relief.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown acupuncture to be effective for migraines, but the specific efficacy of laser acupuncture remains less established.
