What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the levels of CGRP, a neuropeptide associated with migraine, in patients diagnosed with migraines and healthy controls. Participants will visit the study center twice: first for a clinical assessment and then for the collection of blood and saliva samples. The study will measure CGRP levels in saliva and conduct DNA and hormone testing from blood samples to explore differences in treatment responses based on sex and age. The findings may provide insights into the biological underpinnings of migraines.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals diagnosed with migraines according to ICHD-3 criteria and healthy controls matched by age and sex.
Not a fit: Patients with major medical or neurological illnesses, salivary gland malfunctions, or those currently on migraine preventive treatments may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more personalized treatment strategies for migraine patients based on their biological profiles.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of measuring CGRP levels in saliva is novel, similar studies investigating CGRP in relation to migraines have shown promising results.
