What this trial studies
The KNOW-CKD study aims to establish a cohort of chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients in South Korea for up to 10 years to investigate renal progression, mortality, complications, and risk factors. It involves a comprehensive evaluation of kidney function, biochemical parameters, and lifestyle factors, including nutrition and cognitive functions. Patients are enrolled based on specific causes of CKD and undergo regular follow-ups with laboratory tests and health assessments. The study utilizes web-based case-report forms for systematic data management.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 45-79 years with an estimated glomerular filtration rate of 20-60 mL/min/1.73m² who are not dependent on dialysis.
Not a fit: Patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, those who have previously received chronic dialysis, or individuals with severe heart failure may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the management and treatment of chronic kidney disease in the Korean population.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies focusing on CKD cohorts have shown success in understanding disease progression and improving patient outcomes, making this approach promising.
