Investigating the role of oral bacteria in colorectal cancer
Presence of Fusobacterium Nucleatum at Colorectal Cancer Sites - Influencing Factors and Screening Possibilities
This study is trying to see if a specific bacteria in the mouth is linked to colorectal cancer by looking at patients who have been diagnosed with the disease.

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the potential link between periodontitis and colorectal cancer by examining the role of Fusobacterium nucleatum, a bacterium found in the oral cavity. It aims to determine if the oral cavity serves as a reservoir for this bacterium, which may influence cancer development in the colon. The study will include 150 patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer, who will undergo periodontal examinations and provide saliva and serum samples before cancer treatment. Additionally, biopsies of colorectal cancer sites will be collected during tumor resection to assess the presence of F. nucleatum.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with colorectal cancer.
Not a fit: Patients without a diagnosis of colorectal cancer or those with other unrelated health conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the relationship between oral health and colorectal cancer, potentially leading to new preventive strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While the association between oral bacteria and cancer has been suggested in previous studies, this specific investigation into Fusobacterium nucleatum's role in colorectal cancer is relatively novel.
