What this trial studies

This study examines the relationship between angiopoietin levels and adverse outcomes in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. It focuses on how dysregulation of angiopoietin 1 and 2 may indicate endothelial injury and systemic organ failure. By analyzing blood samples from adult patients scheduled for cardiac surgery, the researchers aim to identify potential biomarkers for predicting complications such as acute kidney injury. The findings could enhance understanding of the inflammatory processes involved in cardiac surgery.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adult patients scheduled for cardiac surgery involving cardiopulmonary bypass.

Not a fit: Patients under 18, those requiring urgent surgery, or those with specific cardiac conditions like endocarditis or aortic dissection may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved risk assessment and management strategies for patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of assessing angiopoietin dysregulation in this context may be novel, similar studies have explored biomarkers in cardiac surgery with varying degrees of success.
