What this trial studies

This study aims to explore the association between clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) and unprovoked pulmonary embolism. It will involve analyzing blood samples from patients who have experienced unprovoked pulmonary embolism and comparing them to those with provoked pulmonary embolism. The research seeks to determine if CHIP is a frequent occurrence in these patients and whether it plays a role in the underlying mechanisms of the condition.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals who have had a previous proximal unprovoked pulmonary embolism with negative thrombophilia screening.

Not a fit: Patients over 65 years old or those with active cancer may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of the risk factors for unprovoked pulmonary embolism and lead to improved prevention strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While the investigation of CHIP in relation to pulmonary embolism is a novel approach, previous studies have linked CHIP to other vascular conditions, suggesting potential for meaningful insights.
