Investigating the link between blood tests and frailty in older patients undergoing surgery
Relationship Between Albumin/Creatine Ratio, B12, Folate, and Frailty Index in Patients Undergoing Gastrointestinal Malignancy Surgery
This study is trying to see if certain blood test results can help doctors understand and manage frailty in older patients who are having surgery for stomach cancer.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the relationship between frailty status and various preoperative blood test levels, including Albumin/Creatinine, B12, and Folate, in patients over 65 years old undergoing gastrointestinal malignancy surgery. Frailty is assessed using established scales such as the Frailty Scale Version 9 and the Quality of Life Scale Short Form-36. By identifying modifiable factors contributing to frailty, the study seeks to inform interventions that could improve patient outcomes. The findings may help in early detection and management of frailty in surgical patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients over 65 years old with gastrointestinal malignancy who are classified under ASA risk groups I, II, or III.
Not a fit: Patients under 65 years old or those with an ASA score of IV or higher may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved preoperative assessments and interventions for frail elderly patients, enhancing their surgical outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the relationship between frailty and various blood tests has been explored in other studies, this specific investigation into the combination of these parameters in surgical patients is relatively novel.
