What this trial studies

This observational study aims to explore the epigenetic and genetic factors, specifically microRNA and mRNA expressions, involved in the development of colorectal polyps and cancer. Patients undergoing colonoscopy for polyp evaluation will have biopsies taken from their polyps or cancers, as well as blood samples, to analyze the correlation between tissue and blood microRNA/mRNA expressions. Additionally, the study will assess the intestinal microbiota to determine its relationship with colorectal polyps and cancer. Healthy controls with normal colonoscopy findings will also be included for comparison.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients over 18 years old who are referred for colonoscopy due to suspected colorectal polyps.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of colorectal cancer may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved early detection and prevention strategies for colorectal cancer.

How similar studies have performed: While the study's specific approach is novel, similar studies have shown promise in understanding the role of microRNA/mRNA in cancer progression.
