Investigating physical changes in patients after lung surgery
Evaluation of Frailty, Physical Capacity and Lung Function in Postoperative Pulmonary Endarterectomy Patients: an Observational and Prospective Clinical Study

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the physical performance, lung function, and muscle strength of patients undergoing pulmonary endarterectomy (PET) during their recovery. Participants aged 18 and older will be evaluated at multiple time points: preoperatively, after ICU discharge, before hospital discharge, and six months post-surgery. Various tests, including the Six-minute walk test and spirometry, will be utilized to measure changes in physical capacity and identify factors contributing to functional loss during hospitalization.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older scheduled for elective pulmonary endarterectomy surgery without cognitive or motor impairments.
Not a fit: Patients requiring reoperation or those with cognitive or peripheral motor impairments may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance postoperative care and rehabilitation strategies for patients undergoing pulmonary endarterectomy.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored postoperative outcomes in lung surgery, this specific focus on frailty and physical capacity in PET patients is relatively novel.
