What this trial studies
This observational study follows mothers and their children from two Finnish pregnancy cohorts to explore the links between maternal health conditions, such as obesity and gestational diabetes, and the subsequent health outcomes in their children. The study will assess various factors, including body composition and cardiovascular health, in children aged 11-17 years. Data will be collected through detailed health assessments and metabolomic analyses to understand the impact of maternal conditions on child health outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include mothers who participated in the original PREDO or RADIEL studies during their pregnancy and their children aged 11-17 years.
Not a fit: Patients who did not participate in the PREDO or RADIEL studies during pregnancy will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into preventing childhood obesity and related cardiometabolic disorders by addressing maternal health during pregnancy.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in linking maternal health to childhood obesity, making this approach both relevant and supported by existing research.
